◉ about ME
Passion
Rooted in agriculture
For as long as I can remember, I have been intrigued by the inner workings of the food supply chain. I grew up in the San Joaquin Valley in central California, where I helped cultivate, harvest, and market grapes and oranges grown on my family's farm. I remember pruning and tieing grape vines in the cold and suckering orange trees in the heat. I've worked for a farm equipment manufacturer and dairy, peanut, cattle, produce, and glutamate industry associations. My passion is helping stakeholders understand the food supply chain and the companies and industries that bring our food from farm to fork.
Experience
Specializing in food & ag public relations (PR)
I have dedicated my career to assisting companies and organizations throughout the food supply chain to protect their brands, reputations, and business relationships using traditional and digital communications. I have helped clients communicate about sensitive issues such as biotechnology, artificial sweeteners, food additives, pesticide residues, food safety, adverse financial reports, and worker safety, health and wellness. I use proven messaging techniques and food safety risk communication principles to effectively address misperceptions, misinformation, and disinformation about agriculture and food.
Teamwork
A full-service professional network at your fingertips
Over the past 20-plus years, I have developed a network of graphic design, video production, social media, website development, search engine optimization, and nutrition professionals. We collaborate to ensure that no matter your public relations need, we can help you develop and deliver impactful communication tactics.
I am fully accredited in public relations (APR) and hold bachelor's and master's degrees from California State University, Fresno, in business administration and international relations, respectively, and a Master of Arts in public communication from American University in Washington, DC.
I also volunteer at the Public Relations Society of America's (PRSA) National Capital Chapter, and serve on the Executive Adivory Board of the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSCPA).
Perspective
Contributing to international public relations (PR)
With social media and the Internet, what we communicate locally has the potential to reach global audiences. I have demonstrated expertise at the international level, co-authoring the 2022 Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation's (APEC) Food Safety Risk Communication Framework and authoring three of the six accompanying guidelines. I co-developed and presented at the JIFSAN 2016 Annual Symposium: Communicating Food Risk in an Era of Social Media. I am also a co-contributor of the International Food Information Council's (IFIC) Food Safety: A Communicator's Guide to Improving Understanding.
In 2013, I had the honor of serving on a joint United Nations FAO and World Health Organization working group that developed the Risk Communication Applied to Food Safety Handbook by the United Nations FAO and World Health Organization.
